Can’t live without: Chips and my two catsJessica is a multi-talented visual artist. As a designer, she loves crossing mediums and allowing for playful interactions. Whether it be print, web, or something in between, her work focuses on the ways in which joy can be interjected into branding and user experience. As a photographer, she focuses on fashion and the arts. Jess has also worked in film and animation in both art direction and project management.

Can’t live without: Computer, good food, big sweatersMatthew is a baritone with a career in financial technology as a product manager. Following two degrees in opera performance at the University of British Columbia, he completed several professional contracts throughout Canada and now works with a San Francisco-based startup. Matthew believes that opera deserves larger recognition in our current arts culture. He hopes that Opera Unbound can assist in cultivating new opera audiences and continually satiating current ones.

Dream job as a child: Circus clownPerri is a pianist and vocal coach, working in opera, chamber music, and dance. Since her role as apprentice coach with the Vancouver Opera’s Young Artist Program, Perri has music directed productions with local west coast companies, in both traditional and contemporary repertoire. She works as the company pianist for Ballet BC and Arts Umbrella Dance Company, and is BC’s Provincial Coordinator for Opera InReach: an artists’ collective providing accessible opera education and mentorship for youths across Canada.

Hidden talent: Can wiggle her earsKelsey is a PhD student in Music Theory at McGill University in Montreal, QC. Originally from Calgary, Alberta, she completed her Bachelor of Music Degree in flute performance, conducting, and music theory in 2019 at Queen’s University and her Master of Arts in Music Theory at UBC in 2021. She comes to Opera Unbound with a passion for cultivating music education, performance, scholarship, and engagement across communities and media.

Alternate-universe artistic medium: Jazz piano or Ukrainian dance
Taryn Plater is a versatile singer and creator. Driven by an interest in opera’s relationship to different genres and mediums, her portfolio focuses on Ukrainian art song, new works, and the intersection of jazz and classical music. Taryn was a 2024 emerging artist with Manitoba Opera and a 2021-2022 RBC Artist Fellow with the Association for Opera in Canada. She has been part of developing new works with Good Mess Opera Theatre, Belle Spirale, the Or Festival, and Against the Grain’s National Opera Intensive.

Song on repeat: Aeon by Nick Murray featuring Juliet LyonsErin is an excellent karaoke singer, which makes her the least musically talented member of the team. She is a proud Metis Citizen and holds a BA in Classics and Sociology, a Graduate Diploma in Communications and Marketing, and a certificate in executive leadership for women. As a strategic marketing and communications professional, she firmly believes in the transformative power of words and music. Erin is also a familiar face on the Vancouver Story Slam stage and harbors ambitions of competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Curling, despite having only started learning the sport in 2023.
