Taryn Plater
Taryn Plater is a versatile singer and creator. Driven by an interest in opera’s relationship to different genres and mediums, her portfolio focuses on Ukrainian art song, collaboration with dance, and the intersection of jazz and classical music. Taryn was a 2024 emerging artist with Manitoba Opera and a 2021-2022 RBC Artist Fellow with the Association for Opera in Canada. She has been part of developing new works with Paper Rabbits, Good Mess Opera Theatre, Belle Spirale, the Or Festival, and Against the Grain’s National Opera Intensive. Her varied background extends beyond performance to include business and urban design. Taryn has worked in arts marketing, development, and planning, and has a keen interest in the role that the arts play in our cities and communities.

co-founderMatthew is a baritone with a career in financial technology as a product manager. Following two degrees in opera performance at the University of British Columbia, he completed several professional contracts throughout Canada and now works with a San Francisco-based startup. Matthew believes that opera deserves larger recognition in our current arts culture. He hopes that Opera Unbound can assist in cultivating new opera audiences and continually satiating current ones.

Perri Lo is a Vancouver-based pianist and vocal coach working in opera, chamber music, and dance. She has worked with opera companies across Canada, and has performed and coached with local companies including Vancouver Opera, Pacific Opera Victoria, City Opera Vancouver, Re:Naissance Opera, Burnaby Lyric Opera, and Sound The Alarm Music Theatre – both in traditional and contemporary repertoire. Perri is a company pianist for Ballet BC and Arts Umbrella Dance Company, and enjoys creating new works with dancers and singers, including Floating Island (2024) with Opera Unbound and Belle Spirale’s Dance Deck and Obsidian (2025) with Ballet BC, choreographed by Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schreiber.

Kelsey Lussier
Kelsey is a PhD student in Music Theory at McGill University in Montreal, QC. Originally from Calgary, Alberta, she completed her Bachelor of Music Degree in flute performance, conducting, and music theory in 2019 at Queen’s University and her Master of Arts in Music Theory at UBC in 2021. She comes to Opera Unbound with a passion for cultivating music education, performance, scholarship, and engagement across communities and media.

grants and communicationsJessica is a multi-talented visual artist. As a designer, she loves crossing mediums and allowing for playful interactions. Whether it be print, web, or something in between, her work focuses on the ways in which joy can be interjected into branding and user experience. As a photographer, she focuses on fashion and the arts. Jess has also worked in film and animation in both art direction and project management.

designJessica Wynn Cole
Erin is an excellent karaoke singer, which makes her the least musically talented member of the team. She is a proud Metis Citizen and holds a BA in Classics and Sociology, a Graduate Diploma in Communications and Marketing, and a certificate in executive leadership for women. As a strategic marketing and communications professional, she firmly believes in the transformative power of words and music. Erin is also a familiar face on the Vancouver Story Slam stage and harbors ambitions of competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Curling, despite having only started learning the sport in 2023.

Elissa is a soprano and recent graduate from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor’s in Opera Performance. Recent opera roles have included Frasquita in Peter Brook’s La Tragedie de Carmen with Nebula Performances and Lepido in Handel’s Silla at Chicago Summer Opera. Her previous summer engagements include performing as Susanna in excerpts from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro at both the Taos Opera Institute in Taos, New Mexico, and Opera Viva in Verona, Italy.
